Hydration Protocol
The short answer
Most people are mildly dehydrated most of the time, and they experience it as fatigue, headaches or brain fog rather than thirst. The Live Full Blueprint starts with 16–20oz of water on waking, targets roughly half your body weight in pounds as ounces across the day, adds electrolytes if you are active, and uses urine colour — pale straw — as the feedback signal.
What it is
Water is involved in virtually every bodily process — nutrient transport, temperature regulation, joint lubrication, cognitive function, and detoxification. Even mild dehydration significantly impairs performance and cognition.
Why it matters
Chronic mild dehydration is common and often mistaken for hunger, fatigue, or brain fog. Proper hydration supports energy, mental clarity, kidney function, skin health, and athletic performance.
Signs you need this protocol
Warning signs
- Fatigue
- Headaches
- Dark yellow urine
- Brain fog
- Dry skin
- Constipation
- Muscle cramps
The daily practice
Drink before coffee
16–20oz on waking. You have gone eight hours without fluid, and coffee on top of that deficit is why the morning headache shows up.
Set the daily target
Half your body weight in pounds, as ounces. Write the number down once so you are not re-deciding it every day.
Add minerals when you sweat
Sodium, potassium and magnesium. Plain water in high volume without minerals dilutes what you have and can make you feel worse.
Drink before meals
A glass twenty minutes before eating aids digestion and moderates appetite without diluting stomach acid mid-meal.
Read the colour
Pale straw is the target. Dark amber means catch up; completely clear means ease off and add minerals.
The habits, in full
✓ Do this
- Drink 16–20oz of water upon waking
- Aim for half your body weight (lbs) in ounces daily
- Add electrolytes (sodium, potassium, magnesium) if active
- Drink water before meals
- Carry a water bottle everywhere
✕ Avoid this
- Sugary drinks as primary hydration
- Excessive caffeine without water
- Waiting until thirsty to drink
- Drinking large amounts right before bed
The Scripture behind it
"Whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again." — John 4:14
Common questions
What are the signs of chronic dehydration?
Dark yellow urine, afternoon headaches, fatigue that water resolves, dry skin, constipation and night-time cramping. Thirst is a late signal — by the time you notice it you are already behind, which is why the colour check is more reliable.
Does coffee count toward hydration?
Partly. Coffee is mildly diuretic but the fluid still counts, so a moderate habit is roughly net neutral. It is a poor primary source, though — match each coffee with a glass of water and it stops being a problem.
